As a Corporate Environmental Manager over North America at James Hardie, you’ll manage many priorities and large-scale initiatives to build upon the Environmental programs. You will be responsible for executing short- and long-term improvement strategies while working collaboratively with plant managers and regional EHS Managers on environmental issues and training programs. This Corporate Environmental Manager will serve as the environmental subject matter expert to all North American plants and regional EHS Managers. Must live near one of our plant locations.
What You'll Do:
Environmental Compliance:
- Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive environmental compliance programs
- Monitor and interpret new and evolving environmental regulations to ensure timely updates to our policies and procedures.
- Conduct regular audits and assessments to verify compliance across all operational sites.
- Lead incident investigations related to environmental issues and oversee corrective actions.
Permitting:
- Manage and coordinate environmental permitting activities, including air, water, waste permits
- Prepare, submit, and track permit applications, renewals, modifications, and reports
- Serve as the primary liaison with environmental regulatory agencies and stakeholders.
Leadership and Training:
- Provide guidance, training, and support to site managers and operational teams on environmental regulations and best practices.
- Develop and deliver environmental training programs company-wide
- Serve as the environmental SME to site and regional EHS managers
Reporting and Documentation:
- Prepare required environmental reports, including emissions inventories, spill reports, and compliance certifications.
- Maintain accurate and organized environmental records and documentation.
Strategic Planning:
- Advise senior leadership on environmental risks, opportunities, and compliance strategies.
- Participate in sustainability initiatives and support corporate ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) goals.
What You'll bring:
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Atmospheric Science or a related field
- 7+ years of experience in environmental compliance and permitting, preferably within the industrial, manufacturing, or energy sectors.
- Strong knowledge of U.S. environmental regulations such as the Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act, RCRA, and CERCLA.
- Experience managing environmental permitting processes and interactions with regulatory agencies.
- Proven ability to lead teams and drive company-wide initiatives.
- Excellent communication, project management, and problem-solving skills.
- A strong leader with the ability to build and inspire a strong team
- Demonstrated ability to build credibility at all level within the organization and influence senior leaders
- Experience within a manufacturing environment
- Ability to travel domestically approximately 40%
