Summary
As an intern at James Hardie, you will have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience in your chosen field, whether it be HR, Engineering, Finance, Marketing, IT, or another function. This is a 12-week paid internship program designed to provide you with valuable insights into the industry, enhance your skills, and prepare you for a successful career. You will work closely with experienced professionals, contributing to real projects that impact our business. Additionally, you will have access to exclusive mentoring opportunities to help guide your professional development.
Internship Objective:
The Quality internship delivers hands‑on experience improving ISO9001‑compliant systems, applying root cause analysis, supporting procedure updates, and working with measurement tools and engineering drawings for key inspections. It also strengthens communication and cross‑functional collaboration through presenting findings, managing documentation, and partnering with Operations.
What You’ll Do:
General Responsibilities:
- Work with team members on diverse projects and tasks.
- Perform research and analysis to aid project objectives.
- Create reports, presentations, and necessary documentation.
- Engage in team meetings and share ideas.
- Learn and implement industry best practices and company standards.
Engineering Responsibilities:
- Build, test and launch electronic First Article Inspection (eFAI) for the Exteriors-Trim using DoForms or Smartsheet applications
- Convert and update Gen1 Quality Control Plans for Keyser Profile to the new electronic format
- Assist QE Technician with developing Keyence Comparator programs to permit Profile First Article & Critical-to-Quality Inspections
- Participate in the design and validation of proof-of-concept 3D printed gauges for use in accepting/rejecting CTQ characteristics
- Support the implementation of process improvement projects aimed at reducing postproduction through data driven metrics and other quality tools such as Pareto Charts, fishbone diagrams, and control/trend charts.
What You’ll Bring:
- Must be enrolled in a bachelor's program in a relevant discipline at an accredited university, with an anticipated graduation date between December 2026 and May 2028 (rising junior or rising senior).
- Demonstrated strong academic performance with a minimum GPA of 3.0.
- Must be available to work full-time for 12 weeks during the summer of 2026.
- Must have reliable transportation to and from the work location.
- Must be authorized to work in the US.
Preferred Skills:
- Target majors: mechanical engineering
- Familiar with using handheld measuring devices such as calipers, micrometers, tape measures and misc. functional gauges
- Familiarity with SPC (statistical process control) and problem-solving tools such as Pareto Charts, Fishbone Diagram, 5-WHYs or other Quality 101 tools to permit root cause analysis
- Software Proficiency: Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite (namely Excel, Access) and Smartsheet for data capture, tracking and reporting
- Analytical Skills: Ability to interpret data and identify trends
- Problem-Solving: Strong aptitude for diagnosing issues, proposing solutions, taking initiative
- Communication: strong interpersonal skills; clear written and verbal communication for reporting and collaboration.
- Teamwork: Ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams (operators, management, senior leaders, contractors, vendors)
- Attention to Detail: Accuracy in data collection and documentation.
