The Environmental Specialist supports the facility in developing both short and long term improvement strategies and coaches all team members on environmental issues.  The incumbent ensures the proper management of the environmental processes and provides feedback on strengths and focus areas to the EH&S Manager and Department Managers.  In addition, the incumbent will develop and facilitate new environmental training programs.  As a member of the EH&S team the Environmental Specialist reports to the EH&S Manager.

 

What You’ll Do:

  • Developing and maintaining management information systems 
  • Maintain Air Permit requirements
    • Be well versed in Title V, NSR, ISO 14001, VEEC, and PBR Amendments and Alterations
  • Maintain Wastewater Permit requirements and reporting
  • Updating and delivering employee training programs related to hazardous materials and industrial waste.
  • Maintaining accurate records related to chemical inventories, complaint investigations, and shipments of hazardous and industrial wastes.
  • Keeping informed of current and proposed regulations related to program areas assigned.
  • Maintaining of all waste profiles with waste contractor
  • Maintaining waste stream inventory and arranging for transportation to disposal sites
  • Recommending and coordinating the development of programs needed by the district to comply with hazardous materials regulations.
  • Facility coordination with regulatory agencies in regard to industrial/hazardous waste (IHW) materials.
  • Disseminating Right-to-Know, GHS, and SDS information.
  • Maintaining of all SDS into ShareDrive and SDS Database
  • Performing other duties as assigned.
  • Ensuring EIQ, TRI, Tier II, SW3P, SPCC, and Annual Waste summary reports are properly completed as necessary;
  • Staying abreast of new regulations pertaining to environmental reporting and conveying changes to plant management staff;
  • Utilizing spreadsheets and other tools for reporting to enhance consistency across plant operations (i.e. spreadsheets, methodologies, and emission calculation techniques, etc.); and
  • Actively managing program to close gaps identified by site audits.

 

What You’ll Bring:

  • Bachelors in Engineering, Environmental Science, or related discipline required.
  • Minimum of 3 to 4 years of related environmental experience.
  • Working knowledge of air quality regulations, Title V, NSR, PBR, ISO 14001 and compliance requirements, emission calculation procedures and air pollution control technologies.
  • Multi-media environmental background (SW3P, SPCC, RCRA, TPDES, STEERS’s, etc.) a plus.
  • Excellent written communication and oral communication skills required.

  • RCRA Hazardous Waste Management
    Proficient in spreadsheets, word processing, and database software, including Microsoft Office suite.
  • Ability to understand, comply with and communicate all federal, state, and local environmental regulations (EPA and LEPC or other Regulatory Agencies).
  • Knowledge and ability to update environmental policies and procedures manuals.
  • Ability to coach personnel on how to perform audits of job sites, manufacturing, and plant operations.
  • Ability to coach personnel on how to thoroughly investigate spills and development of effective corrective action recommendations.
  • Ability to manage the flow of all required reports and documentation.
  • Demonstrated intermediate skills with the standard features of various personal computer word processing and spreadsheet software (Microsoft Word and Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Internet, and other proprietary software).
  • Sound judgment, problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment.
