Onsite from the Prattville, AL plant

 

As a member of the Prattville Team, the Project Engineer will report to a more senior-level engineer, or to an Engineering Program Manager.  A person in this position is responsible to:

 

  • Participate in Process or Product Development activities.
  • Assist in the development of Capital Projects, including scope development and estimating
  • Participate in the implementation of capital projects, ensuring that project objectives are realized
  • Provide support to Manufacturing Operations for problem solving. 
  • Conduct investigations and utilize sophisticated tools for data collection and data analysis to determine root cause
  • Provide technical support for continuous improvement initiatives
  • Create or modify Standardized Operating Procedures, related to the production of new products, and/or for operating new or modified equipment
  • Prepare reports and participate in presentations to management


What You’ll Do:

  • Develop an in-depth understanding of the manufacturing processes employed by James Hardie to improve the Engineer’s effectiveness, at solving process issues or in their participation in continuous improvement activities.  Those manufacturing processes may include,

  • Raw Materials Processing – including Pulp refining, Silica grinding
  • Product Forming
  • Process management, including utilization of utilities and resources
  • Material Handling, autoclaving, machining, coatings application and packaging
  • Develops and manages capital projects by: 

     

  • Leading or assisting in conceptualization and scope development for capital projects
  • Organizing teams to help in research efforts
  • Preparing and submitting Capital Expenditure Requests (CER)
  • Support process and product improvement initiatives by:

     

  • Assisting in the implementation of key, strategic initiatives: i.e., product launches or new process capabilities;
  • Working collaboratively with R&D associates to deliver new products or processes as needed to support business needs and objectives
  • Identifying and engaging additional resources as needed to complete assigned tasks
  • Maintaining confidentiality and integrity of intellectual property as appropriate.
  • Leading or participating in the implementation of capital projects
  • Ensuring that project objectives are attained and delivered, through the processes of commissioning, start-up, hand-off and post-implementation support.
  • Travel 10% or less

What You’ll Bring:  

  • Bachelor’s Degree in an applicable Engineering Discipline (mechanical, electrical, chemical, etc.). Degree must be from an accredited institution.
  • 1-4 years of applicable experience
  • Experience in a fast-paced, manufacturing environment is desired
  • Experience in the development and execution of capital projects is desired
  • Ability to work in a collaborative, team environment is essential
  • ability to effectively manage worktime to insure delivery of assignments as expected
  • Possess ability to approach problem-solving in a logical manner
  • Exhibits sound judgment in the context of potentially stressful situations
  • Ability to act independently, given adequate and compelling information to enable decision making
  • Ability to develop innovative solutions to complex problems in a reasonably timely manner.
  • Possesses interpersonal and written/oral communication skills
  • Reasonably proficient in the use of common, Microsoft computer applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Explorer, with ability to quickly learn other software.
  • Ability to successfully manage multiple tasks and prioritize workload while paying attention to detail.
  • Basic understanding of contemporary concepts, practices and procedures in manufacturing
