As a member of the EH&S group reporting to the EH&S Manager, the EH&S Coordinator is responsible for developing and implementing best practices related to safety, industrial hygiene, and environmental compliance. The incumbent will work closely with the EH&S Manager as well as the Plant Manager to ensure compliance with both regulatory and company requirements.
What You’ll Do:

Develops and consistent implementation of environmental best practices and Environmental Management Systems (EMS) to ensure compliance with state and federal regulations by:
- Assist the EH&S Department with safety initiatives such as advising on provisions to minimize safety risks, assist with the development and enforcement of OSHA policies as well as assisting with the direction of accident investigation procedures when necessary.
- Developing multi-media environmental training programs (i.e. Resource Conservation and Recovery Act, air, water) and assisting plants in the implementation of the programs through hands-on annual training of plant personnel;
- Ensuring plant safety and environmental compliance calendars are updated regularly based on changes in permits and regulations resulting from facility modifications, expansions and/or changes in government regulations;
- Analyzing the current state of the plant’s safety and environmental program through annual safety and environmental site audits;

Communicating safety and/or environmental audit results and developing action plans with buy-in from plant management to ensure corrective actions are taken on a timely basis;
- Providing monthly progress reports on compliance status to the EH&S Manager
- Assisting in the development and implementation of best practices and procedures related to environmental and safety compliance based on gaps identified in site audits.

Modifies permits for plant expansions and modifications to ensure maximum operating flexibility while complying with state and federal regulations by:
- Acquiring data and technical plant information needed for permit projects (i.e. material use, throughputs, operating hours, etc.) through engagement with plant personnel;
- Actively managing safety and/or environmental consultants to ensure cost effective execution of permit projects; and
- Working with plant EH&S Manager to develop compliance plans detailing plant actions required for compliance with new permits and compliance agreements. Manages environmental reporting to ensure compliance with State and EPA regulatory requirements by:
- Assisting plant EH&S Managers with instructional guidance on Emission Inventories, Tier II, Toxic Release Inventory, and Stormwater monitoring reports as necessary;
- Reviewing regulations pertaining to environmental reporting and conveying changes required in reporting based on new government regulations; and developing spreadsheets and other tools for reporting to enhance consistency across group operations i.e. spreadsheets, methodologies (i.e. emission calculation techniques, etc).
- Responsible for conducting new hire safety and environmental orientation. Conducts monthly safety meetings for the plant when necessary.

What You’ll Bring:
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Bachelors’ Degree in Chemistry, Environmental, Safety or Science related field is preferred. Degree must be from an accredited institution.
- 1-3 years’ working experience
- Working knowledge in Air, Waste, and Water regulations.
- Demonstrated ability to understand, comply with, and communicate local, state, and Federal environmental laws and regulations.
- Demonstrated ability to understand and complete appropriate permitting applications including: air and water.
- Demonstrated ability to perform safety & environmental audits of manufacturing and plant operations.
- Results-oriented to ensure delivery of appropriate products and services in an accurate, complete, and timely fashion.
- Demonstrated intermediate to advanced skills with the standard features of various personal computer word processing and spreadsheet software (Microsoft Word and Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Internet, and other proprietary software).
- Demonstrated ability to provide effective corrective action recommendations.
- Demonstrated ability to produce and manage the flow of all required reports and documentation.
- Proven ability to synthesize complex and detailed data and information into meaningful outtakes and decision base information.
- Demonstrated expertise of research methods and report preparation.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively take action to solve problems while exhibiting sound judgment and successful stress tolerance.
- Superior interpersonal and written/oral communication skills with the ability to communicate cost and financial information across the business.
