Internship Overview

James Hardie is seeking inquisitive, energized, collaborative, and adaptable college students for our 2024 summer intern program.

Over the course of our 10-12-week internship experience you will have the opportunity to:

  • Work directly with a mentor in your field of study while finding solutions to dynamic and challenging problems.
  • Experience our products up close by touring our state-of-the-art manufacturing and / or research facilities.
  • Interact directly with our company leaders to discuss strategy and the future of James Hardie.

  • Gain the skills and knowledge to become a future leader in the building materials industry.

 

Position Details:

As a member of our Innovation to Commercialization team, you will support project work including but not limited to:

  • Collaborate with R&D team members to understand their information needs, pain points, and existing workflows.
  • Identify gaps in knowledge management and document specific requirements for the KMS.
  • Engage with stakeholders (researchers, scientists, engineers) to gather feedback and involve them in decision-making processes.
  • Organize existing research papers, technical reports, and other relevant documents.
  • Develop a taxonomy (classification system) that aligns with R&D domains and project areas.
  • Define metadata standards for documents, ensuring consistent tagging and indexing.
  • Metadata should capture essential details like authorship, publication date, keywords, and project teams.

 

Locations: Fontana, California

Hourly rate: $25 / Hour

Shift: First shift, Monday through Friday

 

Basic Requirements:

  • Currently enrolled in a bachelor program from an accredited college / university with an expected graduation date between May 2025 – December 2026 (Rising Junior or Rising Senior status)
  • Ability to work full time for 10-12 weeks during summer 2024.
  • Authorized to work in the US.
  • Strong academic performance including a minimum GPA of 3.0
  • Must have reliable transportation to and from the work location.
  • Basic knowledge of information architecture including use of taxonomy, metadata schemas and content categorization
  • Prior exposure to library systems, databases, and digital repositories is valuable.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Familiarity with change management principles is valuable.
  • Ability to organize workflow, work independently and use time efficiently.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse teams and communicate well.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Program majors: Library Science, Information Science, or a related field
  • Previous internships / co-ops or work experience and / or involvement with student or civic organizations
