The Quality Engineer IV shall incorporate Voice of the Customer, Voice of the Process and holistic / End to End monitoring and problem-solving approaches to ensure James Hardie products meet or exceed the James Hardie Brand Promise. As a member of the Central Quality Team, the Quality Engineer IV is responsible for ensuring each plant within their regional area adheres to established Quality practices. With supporting regional plants the travel can be up to 50%.  Additionally, the Quality Engineer IV will be tasked with the execution of Quality related projects as well as the troubleshooting and remediation of quality issues at regional, national and global levels. The Quality Engineer IV reports to the U.S. Division Quality Manager.

 

Under the direction of the U.S. Division Quality Manager, the Quality Engineer IV establishes and promotes a safe, accident-free Zero Harm work environment. The incumbent shall operate as an advocate of James Hardie customers and an advocate of James Hardie manufacturing processes. The incumbent plans and coordinates Quality-based activities and training to maintain compliance with the Company’s policies and aids others to promote and maintain a productive and respectful Quality culture. The Quality Engineer IV leads cross-functional teams to implement Quality improvement initiatives and collaborates with Central and Manufacturing teams to resolve Quality issues.

 

What you'll do:

Ensure each plant within the regional area adheres to established Quality practices by:  

  • Tracking and analyzing product quality data and working with Central Quality Engineers to develop corrective actions should similarities in non-conformances emerge within or between regions.
  • Troubleshooting quality related issues alongside plant personnel and other Central resources (Engineering, R&D, Procurement, etc.).
  • Assisting the plant Quality Engineer with individual plant quality issues, such as material quarantine, customer or third party vendor site visits, data analysis, troubleshooting, etc.
  • Communicating with Regional Quality Engineers to align on practices throughout the network.
  • Administering plant Process and Quality audits through individual plant personnel.
  • Establishing and execution of corrective actions based on Quality and Process audit results.  This may include maintenance corrective action, project generation or the modification of behaviors like testing practices or operator responses.  The Quality Engineer IV will be tasked with ensuring corrective actions are completed on time.
  • Establishing and monitoring product Quality audit norms between plants and working with the plant Quality Manager to ensure audits are completed on time and that non-conformances identified by plant audits are addressed prior to material leaving the manufacturing facility.

Execute Quality related projects associated with the regional area by:  

  • Leading cross-functional teams to implement Quality improvement initiatives.
  • Developing capital requests for Quality projects as needed.
  • Establishing work requests for Quality related work that can be performed by plant personnel.
  • Working alongside plant engineers to complete Quality related projects.
  • Tracking and reporting progress on each project to the rest of the organization.
  • Developing or re-implementing standard test methods at individual plants.

Troubleshoot and remediate quality issues at a regional level by: 

  • Promptly identifying systemic quality issues at the regional or national level.
  • Leading plants through structured problem solving.
  • Evaluating and updating Quality systems.
  • Coaching and mentoring employees through technical instruction around the Company’s quality systems.

 

What you'll bring: 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in an Engineering Field or Quality Management.
  • 7 or more years of experience in a Quality Engineer or similar role.
  • Certified Quality Engineer (preferred)
  • Demonstrated and applied knowledge of Statistical Process Control.
  • Demonstrated advanced skills with the standard features of various personal computer word processing, spreadsheet, collaborative and statistical software packages (Microsoft Word/Excel/PowerPoint/Outlook/Teams, Minitab, JMP and/or other Statistical software packages).
  • Demonstrated and applied knowledge of troubleshooting quality issues.
  • Demonstrated and applied knowledge of root cause analysis and a proven ability to develop and implement effective corrective actions for issues as needed.
  • Ability to understand, comply with and communicate the Company’s Quality policy.
  • Ability to assist with Quality-related training as needed (such as how to perform product audits).
  • Ability to coach personnel on how to thoroughly investigate process upsets and develop effective corrective action recommendations.
  • Ability to manage the flow of all required reports and documentation.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and deliver sustainable and superior results.
  • Knowledge of industrial priming or painting processes (preferred).

We've worked hard to build a generous and competitive benefits program that demonstrates our commitment to our employees.  As of the date of this posting, a good faith estimate of the current pay scale for this position is $125k to $150k. Placement in the range depends on several factors such as experience, skills, geography and internal equity and may change over time. This position qualifies for benefits and you will be eligible to participate in a bonus plan.
