This is an exciting opportunity for an individual with a solid electrical engineering, maintenance, and reliability background to assist in the development and application of James Hardie’s core maintenance and reliability strategies. The person in this role will be responsible for implementing the electrical power reliability program across our twelve US locations. This person will serve as our subject matter expert (SME) for electrical reliability and power distribution best practices.
The Electrical Reliability Engineer reports into the Corporate Director of HMOS Asset Management, overseeing the US maintenance and reliability programs. This role will be a member of the Central HMOS Asset Management Team, working with 9 other team members who drive continuous improvement and standards in all elements of maintenance and reliability. The position will be based out of one of our twelve US locations, or near a major airport.
In order to achieve the Electrical Reliability Program objectives, this person will collaborate with internal and external resources, such as Corporate Engineering, Corporate Construction Engineering, Electrical Power Distribution Contractors, Electrical Power Equipment Suppliers, Corporate EHS Team, Site Maintenance & Engineering Teams, and Corporate Procurement. This role will drive standards, train technical and non-technical people, develop programs, maintain code compliance, and ensure the safe operation and safe practices of our electrical systems. Additionally, this role ensures quality preventative maintenance, quality condition-based maintenance, quality predictive maintenance, and use of the latest tools, technologies, and systems are being effectively utilized to optimize the life our assets with minimal downtime.
What You’ll Do:
- Work with EHS and Engineering to ensure compliance to current OSHA / ANSI / and NEC safe works standards and practices for working with high and low voltage systems.
- Lead the Electrical Power Distribution Reliability Program for all US based sites. Assist the manufacturing operations with the execution of the reliability center maintenance activities necessary to eliminate unplanned asset failures.
- Develop annual outage standards and requirements for all electrical power distribution equipment.
- Apply the latest testing, preventative maintenance, and predictive maintenance programs to our power distribution equipment, including transformers, switchgear, breakers, cabling, MCC’s, AC & DC drives, and electric motors.
- Review capital projects and new construction projects related to electrical power distribution, ensuring standards are applied during equipment selection, installation, and commissioning.
- Ensure our records and drawings are up to date and properly stored. This includes keeping electrical one-line diagrams, coordination studies, equipment name-plate data, and arc flash requirements current and up to date on the latest standards.
- Develop recommended spare parts and network shared parts across all sites.
- Lead root cause analysis events in the identification and elimination of production losses and high maintenance costs associated with asset failures.
- Develop engineering solutions to repetitive failures and all other problems that adversely affect plant operations. These problems include capacity, quality, cost, or regulatory compliance issues.
- Assist plant engineers with the analysis of asset utilization, overall equipment effectiveness, remaining useful life and other parameters that define the operating condition, reliability, and costs of assets.
- Review and apply statistical methods to identify reliability trends
- Establish and track reliability metrics
What You’ll Bring:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering is desired. Equivalent experience and training with 2-year associate degree, 2-year technical degree, and/or applicable military training in the electrical field may be considered.
- 5 or more years’ experience in an industrial continuous operating (24/7) manufacturing environment in the electrical field.
- Experience shall include 12KV-15KV Power Distribution, Medium Voltage 2.2kV – 4.2KV, Motor Controls, One Line Diagrams, Coordination Studies, Transformers, and Breakers.
- Ability to read electrical schematics and one-line diagrams
- Knowledge and Application Experience of Electrical Standards such as IEEE, NEMA, NETA, NEC (National Electrical Code), and NFPA 70-E (Arc-Flash).
- Experience with computer maintenance management systems (CMMS), Hexagon or equivalent
- Strong communication (written, oral and interpersonal) skills
- Ability to develop and write clear standards and specifications.
- Ability to develop training material and transfer knowledge to others.
- Ability to lead and be part of cross functional teams
- Advanced knowledge in reliability centered maintenance, failure modes & effects analysis, criticality analysis
- Technology certifications recommended: Thermography (IR), Ultrasound Emissions, Motor Circuit Testing, Transformer Oil Analysis,
- Reliability certifications recommended: CMRP, CRL, or CRP
- Demonstrated ability to diagnosis and correct opportunities to improve mean time between failures of assets
- Advanced skills in basic personal computer software (Microsoft applications)
- Ability to travel to our twelve US locations.
Overall travel can be 50% with the majority weekly, Monday through Friday. On certain occasions, while supporting projects or annual outages, travel could be multiple weeks in a row, and travel on weekends could be required.
