The Regional HR Manager (West Coast & Midwest) partners with Plant HR Managers and Operations Leaders based in Tacoma, WA, Reno, NV, Fontana, CA and Peru, IL to develop our people strategy in operations and design implementation approaches that support James Hardie advancing our industry leadership in manufacturing performance. This will include the facilitation and implementation of key HR strategies and initiatives to recruit, engage, and develop the workforce located throughout the US. Examples of this include: leading the design of our hourly workforce training, retention, and compensation strategy, developing a recruiting and organizational development approach to transform the capabilities of our plant management teams, and building out the talent management capabilities to increase bench strength. The Sr. HR Manager reports to the HR Director, Manufacturing.


What You’ll Do:

 

  • Supports our growth initiatives through talent planning and employee development including, but not limited to program recruitment, high potential development, and staff level coaching;
  • Leads and implements employee engagement and recognition initiatives on a regional basis;
  • Manages succession planning and ensures that subsequent development/bench strength building is planned and executed at a high level;
  • Partners with senior leadership on organizational design concepts and strategies;
  • Drives organization and functional culture initiatives;
  • Manages a team of Plant HR Managers with an overall organization size of around 10-15 HR professionals;
  • Facilitates, directs, and guides HR processes and union avoidance strategies for all plant locations.

What You’ll Bring:  

 

 

  • Assess high risk situations and drive resolutions that appropriately balance the needs of the Company, employees, and management.
  • Capability to scale up with an operations organization that’s growing significantly to meet the capacity requirements of a James Hardie’s market share growth strategy
  • Deep expertise in organizational design, compensation, performance management and human capital best practices
  • Bachelor’s degree Human Resources Management required (degree must be from an accredited institution)
  • Master’s degree in business administration, human resources, industrial/organizational psychology or organizational development preferred
  • 10 years of generalist and/or organizational development HR experience with exposure to employee relations, performance management, compensation, benefits administration, training and development, and recruitment
  • Experience with manufacturing required
  • Experience with management of people required
  • PHR or SHRM-CP certification a plus
  •  
  • Demonstrated ability to anticipate and address talent needs and develop appropriate strategies
  • Demonstrated ability to develop deep business partnerships in manufacturing that result in significant step change in organizational performance
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively take action to solve problems while exhibiting sound judgment and successful stress tolerance.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle confidential material and information in an ethical, professional manner; knowledge of the practices and principles of human resources including FMLA, ADA, worker’s compensation, safety administration, benefits, employee relations, and providing consultative services to various client groups. Knowledge of US federal and state employment law and equal employment guidelines and policies including the principles and practices of staffing administration including methods and techniques used in recruitment and selection, classification and compensation, and training.
  • Excellent organizational skills, including the ability to work effectively under pressure and deal with multiple priorities in a change intensive environment.
  • Experience providing HR management for manufacturing plant (non-union) facilities is preferred
  • Experience with HR business integration to include recommending and implementing business decisions that have significant implications on the organization
  • Experienced at coaching executives, executing career development plans and performance management
  • Must exhibit poise and savvy with strong verbal and written communication, negotiation, and influencing skills
  • Must have experience leading HR for a company or large division in a fast-paced growth-oriented environment
  • Proven experience developing and executing people strategy to consistently improve organization effectiveness and achieve business goals
  • Provide guidance to leaders and managers on employment laws, compensation, training, benefits, and Company policies.
  • Strong analytical skills along with experience and disposition towards data driven decision making; strong communication skills and the ability to develop and guide processes through to closure.
  • Ability to travel – approximately 50%
