Summary

Paralegal enables the delivery of quality legal services to clients by partnering with attorneys and legal operations in performing a wide variety of tasks relating to the department’s support of all business functions.  The Paralegal will be responsible for providing analytical, technical, and certain administrative support to James Hardie’s Legal and Compliance Department, including case management, participation in global legal practice groups, administering and improving legal department technology, partnering with legal operations in the implementation of legal policies and procedures. In addition, incumbent will manage and work with internal and external business partners on various legal and compliance related matters.

What You’ll Do:

  • Apply and demonstrate skills in litigation and dispute support including but not limited to: matter management; docketing; communications to internal and external stakeholders; and management of service of process; serving as liaison between outside counsel, experts or other stakeholders; coordination of third-party subpoenas and other records collection activities
  • Support in the marketing and IP review processes and systems, including liaising with marketing teams and legal practice groups to ensure policy and process compliance with a continuous improvement mindset
  • Provide overall and some administrative support to global function including but not limited to: research and writing; word processing and formatting documents; keeping minutes and notes from team and committee meetings; coordinating meetings; and other day to day issues impacting the legal and compliance department, as required

What You’ll Bring:

  • At least 5 years’ legal assistant or paralegal experience in a corporate in-house capacity
  • A bachelor’s degree in business or a related field
  • Paralegal certification from an ABA accredited school is desired but not required
  • Experience in knowledge management, matter, document and entity management systems helpful
  • Knowledge of corporate governance and compliance functions and processes is helpful
  • Outstanding organizational skills, interpersonal skills, communication skills
  • Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office software (Word, Outlook, Excel), and capacity and willingness to learn new software
  • Ability to work effectively within a team environment and to work proactively
  • Highly detail oriented with an ability to flag issues to attorneys and executive stakeholders
  • Strong time management skills and the ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment; ability to coordinate multiple tasks concurrently
  • Level: This position works under moderate supervision and exercises a high level of discretion and independent judgment
  • Ability to develop, improve, document and provide quality deliverables
  • Strong skills in Microsoft Office, especially Excel with ability to learn other systems
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills with a proven track record
  • Ability to be detailed while understanding the bigger picture
  • Understands the team concept, has a desire to be a contributing teammate and ability to operate cross-functionally

What You’ll Receive:

As of the date of this posting, a good faith estimate of the current pay scale for this position is $85,000 to $110,000. Placement in the range depends on several factors such as experience, skills, geography and internal equity and may change over time. This position qualifies for benefits and you will be eligible to participate in a bonus plan.
