The Network Capacity Planner will work within our Capacity Planning team in Chicago and be responsible for our network supply plan.  You will evaluate demand forecasts and manufacturing capabilities to outline insights and recommendations to manipulate demand sourcing and production output to deliver the lowest landed-cost network.  There will also be opportunity to run various improvement projects as it relates to service, costs, or process efficiency within logistics/planning/supply chain.  You will report directly to the Capacity Planning Manager, rolling up into the Vice President of Supply Chain and have no direct reports but collaborate with FP&A, manufacturing leadership, transportation, and procurement.

What You’ll Do: 

Analyze forecast scenarios, manufacturing capabilities, and inventory levels to provide recommendations to balance capacity over the next 18 months (60%) 

  • Enable James Hardie to deliver product to the customer at the lowest landed cost
  • Analyze cost impacts of sourcing and manufacturing decisions, supply disruptions, etc.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing leadership and FP&A to continuously improve the capacity planning process and further integrate manufacturing initiatives and commercial insights into the process
  • Utilize SAP Integrated Business Planning (IBP) for rapid scenario analysis and insight sharing
  • Evaluate network capacity impact of new product initiatives
  • Facilitate S&OP process through monthly forecast cycle, aligning supply plan with transportation and manufacturing forecasts

Connect intermediate-term capacity strategy to short-term capacity needs and long-term manufacturing network strategy (30%)

  • Monitor sales and inventory trends in collaboration with the Short-Term Capacity Planner to set the business up for success regarding near-term service goals, with considerations for intermediate-term needs
  • Identify and monitor key supply and distribution constraints to proactively alleviate issues
  • Influence machine production schedules and inventory distribution strategy to enable high customer service and hit business goals

Continuously reduce and optimize working capital (10%)

  • Partner with the planning team, manufacturing leadership, warehouse management, customer service, and other business partners to increase end-to-end production and demand visibility in efforts to optimize working capital
  • Routinely evaluate inventory and distribution logic to maintain working capital within desired levels
  • Reduce excess or obsolete inventory to maximize inventory efficiency

 Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities required:

  • Demonstrated ability to identify and understand issues or problems using data and use effective approaches for choosing a course of action or developing an appropriate solution.
  • Ability to effectively analyze and communicate abstract concepts in a concise, actionable manner
  • Knowledge of Supply Chain best practice methodologies for multiple manufacturing facilities.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively across an organization to realize improvements
  • In depth knowledge of supply chain, transportation, and logistics.
  • Demonstrated ability to build strategic working relationships while holding others and self-accountable for deliverables.
  • Demonstrated ability to act independently upon information and make decisions that achieve optimal results.
  • Ability to successfully manage multiple tasks and prioritize workload while paying attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated ability to function as a strong team player.

What You’ll Bring:  

  • Bachelor’s Degree (must be from an accredited institution)
  • 5-7 or more years in Supply Chain analytical role
  • 2-4 or more years of experience in capacity planning
  • Strong analytical skills using Microsoft Excel.
  • SAP – APO and/or IBP experience a plus
