Position Summary

As a member of the Human Resources (HR) team reporting to the Human Resources Manager, the Operator Trainer ensures the efficient daily operation of the production finishing lines in a high-speed, high-volume manufacturing environment by ensuring that Operators have the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the assigned job tasks.  In this role, the Operator Trainer is responsible for the execution of the Company’s training and career path program for hourly operators, creating and updating training materials to correspond with new procedures and monitoring activities, and performance on the manufacturing floor to meet safety, quality, and production design goals in addition to cost objectives, as well as promoting a strong team atmosphere.  The Operator Trainer is responsible for advancing and executing specific lean initiatives and projects to achieve workplace organization through continuous improvement by working inclusively and cross-functionally.

 

Position Responsibilities

 

Actively executing the Company’s operator training program to ensure each team member  can perform the functions of r their role to meet or exceed the Company’s safety, quality, and operational standards by: 

 

  • Works with all team members that are new in their position to ensure both the understanding of the requirements of the position and the expectations of the training / Skill Based System (SBS) Initiative;
  • Assess individual and overall Operator training needs; developing and implementing plans to meet those needs; and through the coordination of training efforts with team members who are new in their position, Supervisors, and Leads to ensure that skills are developed timely.
  • Administer On-the-Job assessments and testing and making recommendations regarding  inclusion or removal of certification of skills within a particular area;
  • Partner with the HR Manager and Department Managers to provide support to supervisors to administer the career path program and ensure career path discussions are conducted in a timely manner and according to the Company’s designed schedule;
  • Ensure all training material and content reflects current best practices and team member performance is meeting or exceeding Company standards;
  • Provides the tools and resources necessary for team members who are new in position or ready to move into a new position to ensure that productivity is optimized;
  • Maintains accurate and up-to-date training records in the SBS Database
  • Acting as mentor/partner and cultural ambassador for team members to ensure effective onboarding and an overall positive employee experience.
  • Fosters an environment that promotes teamwork and accomplishments. 
  • Actively supports the plant safety programs by partnering with the EH&S Manager to conduct safety orientations, train on energy control and lockout tagout programs, and other safety-related training.
  • Provide training/knowledge of quality requirements to meet or exceed customer expectations.
  • Ability to understand and successfully transfer knowledge of the waste, speed, and delay design for each product on each machine to new team members.
  • Partners with the Department Managers, Human Resources, and Supervisors in succession planning for the manufacturing floor.

  • Proven knowledge of manufacturing processes, procedures, and standards and the ability to communicate and teach that information to others.

  • Strong interpersonal and written/oral communication skills .
  • Demonstrated intermediate skills with the standard features of various personal computer word processing and spreadsheet software (Microsoft Word and Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Internet, and other proprietary software).
  • Demonstrated ability to influence and get results through the actions of others.
  • Demonstrated ability to think ahead and plan over a 90-day time span, including preparing and implementing action plans.
  • Demonstrated ability to measure a team member’s performance to pre-established goals and standards.
  • Ability to successfully manage multiple tasks and prioritize workload while paying attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated ability to function as a strong team player.

 

Education/Experience:

Required:

 

  • Bachelor’s Degree (preferred).
  • Two (2) or more years in a supervisor role in a high-speed manufacturing environment to include interviewing, performance management, discipline, training, and development.
